Secondary Logos that are better than Primary Logos
Through out sports, teams have secondary logos used as shoulder patches, court and ice icons, and hat emblems. For most teams their secondary logo is not as strong as their primary. They tend to be script logos or simply their primary logo with out the team name or city that they represent. However some logos are entirely different from their primary but contain imagery that is strong and inventive. In the NBA there are teams whose secondary logos make bold statements and could be used as primaries. Currently the teams with some of best secondary logos are New Orleans, Denver and Cleveland.
The New Orleans Hornets use the shape of the Fluer de Lis and a hornet holding a basketball. Its incredibly strong, the teams colors, which were brought over from their years in Charlotte have been upgraded to hues that are more symbolic to NOLA and Mardi Gras. The hornet shape is clear and striking.
The Denver Nuggets have quiet a smart logo with a simple circle, two crossed pick axes with a mountain resting above that has a golden side, and the outline of a basketball nestled below.
And finally The Cleveland Cavaliers ( based on my intro they are the expection that prove the rule) who until 6 years ago strayed from original theme of a swashbuckler wielding a sword by using the nickname Cavs and type to create boring and confusing logos with basketballs flying into the rim. Their secondary logo uses the team sword and a banner with the Team/City C to create this heraldic and fairly bad ass looking piece.

Because of the Swiffer commercial with a Mariachi band singing Player’s “Baby Come Back” (which is a late 70’s song) I have decided that at a yet to be determined party I want to have Mariachis singing 80’s classics. Here is my list so far, in no particular order.
